FRINGE '04: Hallelujah Chaos
Press Release – Hallelujah Chaos
Hallelujah Chaos brings together two of New Zealand’s most exciting musicians for one night only at Wellington’s most cutting edge performance venue Happy. Tristan Dingemans, guitarist and vocalist for New Zealand’s finest purveyors of sonic rock H.D.U, presents his solo project Kahu. Tristan creates, with mind bending results, improvised soundscapes which surge from the melodic and contemplative to the overwhelming and uplifting. Ed Davis (Best Director 2003 New Zealand Music Video Awards) adds to this unique sensory experience by providing visual projections that explore themes of nature versus urban encroachment, remnants of geographical heritage, decay and nostalgia. Tristan’s freeform, cataclysmic, evolving, looping guitar ambience bringing a whole other dimension to the visual images.
Tristan and Ed alone could provide an evenings worth of high quality exploration, experimentation and entertainment but there’s more! Sam Scott, key singer, songwriter and guitarist for Wellington’s latest indie rock success The Phoenix Foundation, premiers his solo project Bunnies on Ponies. Sam will be enlisting the support of a rhythm section comprised of members of The Blackseeds to perform his highly crafted and original songs, provoking a collision of ideas through his acoustic simplicity and their familiarity with improvised performance. A sound which may be best described as folk music for the avant garde fan.
Hallelujah Chaos, Thursday 4th March 8pm at Happy, corner of Tory St and Vivian St. Tickets available at Real Groovy Records, $8 /$10/ $12. Be there or be sorry to have missed this unique billing and the soul nurturing effects of two such talented and provocative musicians.
