Zoo challenges students to get creative online

Auckland Zoo is challenging school students to create an animated gif mascot for its third online interactive zoo/aquarium project ‘Sniff, Swing & Swipe 3’, due to start in term 3.

The gif mascot character, which will guide students through the term 3 project, can be any animal – from the cute and fluffy to the downright funky!

“Like our highly successful Sniff, Swing & Swipe 1 and 2 projects, the third project will challenge school students of all ages to design and make behavioural enrichment items that will have our animals sniffing, swinging and swiping in the most natural way, as well as keeping them mentally stimulated,” says Auckland Zoo Education Service Educator Sue Barker.

The animated gif competition is an opportunity for students throughout New Zealand to lift their computer and design skills. And to help them out, the website www.megabright.co.nz/comp has simple step by step instructions to get the first-time gif designer up and running.

Certificates and prizes of Auckland Zoo souvenir books will be awarded to the top six designs. The designer of the selected gif will receive a family pass to the zoo or aquaria closest to their home, along with a copy of the ‘Best of Zoo 5’ video.
