Call For Proposals - The ART BOX Project

The Art Box Project

Call for proposals EXTENDED until February 10th.

Artists are invited to propose ideas to the Art Box Project, a public art space in the form of a 1m3 perspex box. The Art Box relocates to unpredictable public locations within Wellington City, producing a nomadic itinerary of site-oriented installations.

Whether interpreted as a gallery cube, an errant display case, or re-imagined as an artwork, the Art Box is a space for artists questioning the public domain.

Each installation is considered along with the proposed site: whether immersed in, or intervening the environment. ‘Site’ may be thought of as a specific location or surrounding city context.

Proposals may be any medium: performance, painting, photography, sculpture, projection, text, public participation, etc, for any length of time. These temporary installations inhabit the Art Box one after another over the course of a year, November 2003 to October 2004.

See www.artbox.org.nz for more details and previous artists’ installations. Or email Katharine at artbox@artbox.org.nz.

The Art Box Project receives significant funding from the Wellington Creative Communities scheme.

Wellington artist Kaleb Bennett is coordinating INTERVENTIONS, an open platform public art project taking place from the 1st to the 14th of March 2004.

The project will feature A1-format posters bearing maps of the central city, which will pinpoint the locations of participant's artworks. 500 posters will be distributed throughout the city during the project, and a project web page will publicise the event in the digital/international domain.

There is an open call for submissions: people are invited to get involved by selecting a site or multiple sites from the mapped area and making art - as many artworks at as many locations as they wish. Each site will receive its own mention on the map. The only stipulations are that work must be publicly viewable, free of charge, and that all work must fall between the 1st to the 14th of March.

The deadline for submissions is the 1st of February 2004.

For complete project information and an image of the mapped area, email: interventions@artbruit.com
