Richard Long reads his final bulletin for TVNZ
ONE News presenter Richard Long reads his final bulletin for TVNZ tonight.
Long ends a 16 year partnership with co-presenter Judy Bailey, as TVNZ changes to a one presenter format in the New Year.
Ian Fraser, TVNZ Chief Executive Officer, today described Richard's contribution to New Zealand broadcasting as incalculable.
Fraser says Richard has been outstanding as a reporter, producer and presenter since he joined what was then called the NZBC more than three decades ago.
"In particular, his partnership with Judy Bailey co-presenting the ONE News prime time bulletin over the last 16 years has been without parallel in this country's broadcasting history."
TVNZ's Head of News & Current Affairs, Bill Ralston, says he was very keen for Richard to stay on performing other duties following the transition to the one-presenter format.
But Ralston says TVNZ understands Richard's desire to seek new challenges in the freelance world.
"Richard has been a terrific servant of TVNZ and we are very sorry to lose his skills and experience, we wish him well."
