OTAGO CONCERTS BY TOWER NEW ZEALAND YOUTH CHOIR
NEW ZEALAND’S LEADING YOUTH CHOIR
TOWER New Zealand Youth Choir will be visiting Dunedin and Oamaru as for the start of their build-up to their 25th Anniversary Year, concerts in New Zealand Festival of the Arts, and the Journey to St Petersburg 2004.
‘Karen Grylls has created a superb world-class choir, stunning in skill, of huge presence, presenting a challenging, yet entertaining repertoire…’
The Daily News (New Plymouth, September 2003)
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear New Zealand’s leading Youth Choir singing popular choral works from composers including Bach, Praetorious and Tchaikovsky, as well as exciting contemporary New Zealand works by David Hamilton and Richard Puanaki. The Choir is drawn from all over New Zealand, but features a number of singers from the Otago region who will also be participating in the international tour.
The TOWER New Zealand Youth Choir was established to promote choral singing of the highest standard among young New Zealanders. In its 24-year existence it has achieved a remarkable number of awards and accolades, including the ‘Grand Prix’ in Slovakia, and the ‘Choir of the World’ award at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, both on its highly successful European tour in 1999. The culmination of each Choir cycle is an overseas tour, participating in festivals, competitions and cultural events of all kinds. For the Choir this also provides the opportunity to showcase New Zealand and New Zealand music to the world, and next year’s Journey to St Petersburg will see the Choir perform in Slovenia, Hungary and Russia, as well as competing in the 43rd International Choral Competition in Gorizia, Italy.
Karen Grylls, Artistic Director and Conductor of TOWER Voices NZ as well as the TOWER New Zealand Youth Choir, will lead the 48 voices. Dr Grylls has recently been appointed to the Board of the International Federation of Choral Music, and is the first New Zealander to be honoured with this invitation.
