PlayStation2 Friday Arvo Surf Update
PlayStation2 Friday Arvo Surf Update
Hi Alistair,
It is looking like waves for the contests that are on this weekend... The Auahi Kore Aotearoa Maori Surfing Titles at Kaikoura and the Cape Classic being held at Westport. And for the rest of us taking a well-deserved break, yes it's the long weekend, there are waves to be found and shredded.
This week we are stoked to announce a brand new partner onboard! Those of you in the know would have already heard about Coastlines NZ, but for those who don't - Coastlines NZ is a brand new Kiwi 'Surf & Beach' lifestyle label. This band of passionate men and women surfers are sponsoring 'Keith's Comments' section on the home page - (Keith gets to keep his job!).
Coastlines point of difference is that it's been specifically developed for Kiwis by Kiwis (What a great idea!). So if you are just about anywhere in NZ and are looking for a surfing specialist check out the wicked range of Coastlines clothing, wetsuits and footwear etc through the individual stores. Click on their advert below to check out their offer to Surfco FASU subscribers and to find out where to get your Coastlines gear!
------------------ WEATHER SITUATION:
A bunch of lows have passed under the South Island are and heading further to the east. The low that was in the northeast has dropped south quickly and weakened. We have a front wedged in between the low and us. There is a largish high in the Tasman Sea slowly slipping on to us bring the easterly quarter winds.
---------------- REGIONAL REPORT:
North Island
Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:
West Coast: Southerlies tending southwest and then southeast by Sunday. On Monday it is looking the lighter winds tending northerly. Rising swell tonight from the southwest. Should be quite big 5-6 feet tomorrow and start to ease late Sunday and be more comfortable by Monday with 2-4 feet expected. LT 1500. East Coast: As I'm writing this a few of you are slipping into a couple of clean waves on the East Coast. Yes we have swell but it will start to ease today. This afternoon we have 3-4 feet of east swell with a fresh offshore southwest all the way from the Far North to the Coromandel. The wind has a touch more west in it in the Bay of Plenty. The swell will swing to the southeast over the weekend and continue to ease. Southwest winds tomorrow with a brief burst of southeast Sunday morning and then back to southwest for the arvo and Monday. HT 1700. The swell has already picked up this afternoon from the east and we have an onshore southerly wind affected 2-3 feet. HT 1520. Camera Link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/47593C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/

Southerly this afternoon and southerlies tomorrow tending southwest in the afternoon and southwest for Sunday and Monday. The south swell should be 4-5 feet tomorrow.
Taranaki:
Looking like a good place to be for Labour Weekend with offshores and swell. Southeast winds today, tomorrow and Sunday with northeast on Monday. We have a rising southwest swell tonight that will peak tomorrow and ease slowly over the weekend. HT 1725 Camera Link: http://surf.gravitymail.com/cp/47594C9I524F07N44YJN4J6V/

West Coast: No action this weekend sorry. If I'm wrong I'm stoked for you. Offshore southeast winds all weekend. Quite strong at times so we might see more swell going out to sea. HT 1725.
South Coast: The southerly is with us, so is the rain. We have about a foot of wind swell that will get bigger. The swell will build tomorrow and peak on Sunday. Unfortunately we will have southerlies all weekend tending southwest Sunday. Monday is looking like a good option with the wind easing and becoming northeast in the afternoon and a couple of feet of south swell lurking around. HT 1320.
