Fashion Lab focuses on branding at L’Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week
Jack Yan, Paula Ryan, Annie Dow, Steve Dunstan, Dan Buckley and Cosmo Jenks lined up to speak at LNZFW with cutting-edge
topics on October 23
Auckland, August 8 (JY Media) L'Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week's (LNZFW) annual Fashion Lab has been known for bringing hot topics to the
forefront and this year is no exception. Five speakers will address issues surrounding the often controversial topic of
fashion branding on Thursday, October 23, beginning at 9 a.m., at the Concert Chamber in the Auckland Town Hall.
The speakers deal with everything from cutting-edge industry trends to internationalization in the three-hour ‘The
Importance of Developing a Brand'.
Jack Yan, publisher of http://www.lucire.comLucire, fresh from a speaking stint in Sweden, looks at emerging trends in
the fashion market-place. Paula Ryan, who has created some of the country's strongest fashion brands including Simply
You, speaks about creating brands. Annie Dow of leading branding firm Dow Design discusses how brand distinction can be
created. Steve Dunstan and Dan Buckley of Huffer, the winner of the Design in Business Award, discuss their company's
ethos and how their lessons can apply to other ventures. Finally, Cosmo Jenks, international milliner, is a brand in her
own right, and discusses global issues.
Pieter Stewart, managing director of L'Oréal New Zealand Fashion Week, says, ‘Fashion branding has been the subject of
criticism in recent years. The speakers are all nationally and internationally experienced, and bring a
future-orientated view to how brands can be developed in this industry.'
Mr Yan, who co-authored Beyond Branding, to be published by Kogan Page in London at the end of October, adds, ‘New
entrants to the fashion industry won't be able to follow the same rules that established players have. They need to
out-think the competition while being authentic, especially in the face of consumer cynicism. We'll be addressing these
points as well as how existing companies might want to manage the emerging changes in branding.'
Audiences can expect both fundamental branding topics to be addressed as well as some cutting-edge theories, according
to Mrs Stewart. A panel discussion follows the speakers' sessions.
Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for students and include access to Newmarket Fashion Friday on October 24, 11 a.m.–8
p.m. They can be purchased through Ticketek, www.ticketek.co.nz or telephone (09) 307-5000.
