Hammond Gamble: This charismatic singer and electrifying guitarist came to considerable local fame in the late '70s fronting one of the biggest bands on the New Zealand rock circuit at the time, Street Talk, and later the Hammond Gamble Band.
He recorded two albums with Street Talk and three under his own name adding to the list of local rock classics with songs like Leaving he Country and Should I be Good or Should I be Evil.
Through the years Gamble has written and performed in many different guises winning a number of awards including Rock Performer of the Year, Album of the Year, APRA Silver Scroll and Film Soundtrack of the Year.
In 1992 and 1993 he had a number one hit with a rare non-original, You Make the Whole World Smile.
He has been chosen as support in New Zealand for almost every major act: from Tina Turner to Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac to Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker, who Gamble has supported on his last four New Zealand tours, recorded the Gamble original If You've Got Love, Give Me Some in the '80s
Hammond Gamble stills plays occasionally with his electric blues band (live album released 1995, Plugged in and Blue). However, most live work is comprised of solo or duo acoustic shows.
Acoustic or electric, raging blues or subtle ballad, Gamble is a performer too riveting to miss!
Graham Brazier penned such kiwi classics as Blue
Lady and continues to write some amazing songs. He has
recently been recording with Rikki Morris and the new album
will be released in the very near future!!
