Electronic Arts announces the release of EA Sports™ Rugby 2004

Electronic Arts New Zealand announced today the release of arguably the most highly anticipated game of the year, EA Sports™ Rugby 2004. This game is expected to be the biggest selling Playstation2 game in New Zealand, having shipped 20,000 units alone today, and is likely to exceed 50,000 units by Christmas.

‘EA Sports™ Rugby 2004 reinforces EA’s commitment to developing local sporting titles that cater specifically to a New Zealand audience’ says General Manager of EA New Zealand Mike Wynands.

Wynands adds, ‘We are extremely excited by the success of today’s results. This game will add a new dimension to sports gaming in New Zealand by allowing New Zealanders to participate in their number one sport, this is any Rugby fans dream’.

This is the first rugby video game to carry the Super 12 licence and features New Zealand, Australian, South African and European national competitions as well as a World league competition.

The game features more than 2000 players, 62 teams, including the All Blacks, the Australian Wallabies, the South African Springboks, England and France. Gamers can compete in their favourite competitions, selecting to play in more than 67 stadiums from across the globe. Expert play-by-play commentary by world-renowned commentators will help bring the game calls alive. EA Sports Rugby 2004 features licences from the New Zealand Rugby Union, the Australian Rugby Union, South African Rugby Football Union, Rugby Football Union, Scottish Rugby Union and the Federation Francaise de Rugby. It will also include a selection of famous All Black players as well as legendary sports personalities from international rugby teams. EA Sports Rugby 2004 is exclusive to PlayStation2 (PS2) and PC formats.
