Rick Bryant & The Jive Bombers 20th Anniversary Concert
Rick Bryant & The Jive Bombers celebrate their 20th anniversary at the King’s Arms Tavern on Sunday 21st September.
Originally formed as a part-time sideline while Bryant was a member of country-soul band the Neighbours, the Jive
Bombers successfully sought to capture the excitement of the Sixties soul revues which Rick reveres – an eleven-piece
line-up featuring horn section and backing vocalists.
Otis Redding, Solomon Burke, James Brown and other soul legends formed the basis of the original repertoire, but with
the demise of the Neighbours in early-’84, the Jive Bombers became a semi-permanent outfit, and in came a smattering of
originals, composed by Bryant and various band members.
The Jive Bombers has always been a part-time affair, and Bryant has simultaneously worked in smaller combos and duos. He
is a member of the gospel group Jubilation.
It’s difficult enough sustaining a 4-5 piece band in New Zealand, 20 years of an 11-piece group is no small achievement.
The line-up to take to the stage at the Kings Arms will feature a mixture of original members and those who have played
in the band more recently. Guest acts are The Alibis and Darren Watson.
WHEN: 7.00pm, Sunday 21 September 2003
