Hodgkins Artwork Sold For $100,000 At Charity Art Exhibition
HOT OFF THE PRESS
Auckland, 29 August 2003 - piece of art from the late, famed NZ artist Frances Mary Hodgkins has been sold for $100,000 at Artworks 2003 Charity Art Exhibition and Sale being held at the Hilton Hotel. The buyer wishes to remain anonymous.
Other significant sales of NZ art today (day two of the three day event open free to the public) include: A Randall Froude piece which went for $25,000, an Ivan Clarke piece for $25,000 and two Tim Wilson paintings at $15,000 each. Spokesman John Wren says that they are well on track to beating last years amount of $70,000 raised from the event.
Money raised from the event will be split between; Variety - the Children's Charity, the Gifted Children's Programme, the Spirit of Adventure Trust, the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research and the Liggins Institute.
Artworks 2003 is being held at the Hilton Hotel and is open to the public at no charge tomorrow from 10am - 2pm. There are over 600 pieces of art on display and available for purchase from both New Zealand's leading and emerging artists.
