Back when the official New Zealand Music Month was just a twinkle in the eye of the cultural economy, 95bFM was celebrating the local product. And with this year's New Zealand Music Week it just gets better.
From Monday May 5 to Sunday May 11, 95bFM will be playing 100% New Zealand music - and five times a day both emerging and proven local bands will step up and play live to air, thanks to the assistance of Export Gold. All of them will be recorded for the next 95bFM Live and Direct CD. Performance times each day are 8am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm and a full list of the lineup is available at www.95bfm.com.
Listeners to bFM Breakfast can look forward to interviews with local bands and industry luminaries all week, with yet more on Drive, The Wire and the venerable Freak the Sheep. We'll be giving away New Zealand music on every show.
We will also air the five best episodes of the new series of the award-winning local music backgrounder Inside Track through the week on The Wire, between 12 and 2pm. The Top 10 on Wednesday evening will of course be 100% homegrown.
And just to cap off the week with a big one, on Friday May 9, 95bFM is co-hosting the New Zealand music showcase "Independence night" at the King's Arms Tavern, in association with Independent Music New Zealand.
More details on 95bFM's New Zealand Music Week can be had by visiting www.95bfm.com. We love it …
