- Affiliated Productions presents the Urban Assault Australasian Tour: Kurupt, The Luniz and TechN9ne featuring Dru Down, DJ Fingaz, Monsta Gunjah, Tri, Little Tri, Krizz Kaliko and DJ Dot with local support Deceptikonz; tonight (24/4) at the Logan Campbell Centre, Auckland (all ages); book at Ticketek.
- Paradice Ice Skating presents a hip hop night tonight (24/4) with an open mic competition, graffiti art and breakdancing with Mai FM’s DJ Jarm; Paradice Ice Skating, Lansford Crescent, Avondale, 8pm to midnight; tickets available at the door.
- KiwiMana, the home-grown male revue who shot to fame as Kiwifire, kick off their national tour in Auckland this week with gigs tonight (24/4) and tomorrow night (25/4) at Hopetoun Alpha; book at Ticketek.
- Mai FM 88.6 presents King Kapisi performing live in-store at Farmers Manukau at 2pm tomorrow (25/4) to launch his new range of clothing. Overstayer is available at Farmers Manukau, St Lukes, Lyn Mall, Queen Street and Rotorua, and shoppers who buy a sweatshirt or a pair of jeans from the range receive a free limited edition three-track CD. King Kapisi will be in-store at Farmers Manukau between 1pm and 3.30pm, and will sign Overstayer clothing for shoppers.
- Mai Music reggae band Katchafire perform at Silverdale’s Wade Hotel on the Hisbiscus Coast this Friday (25/4); limited tickets available from the hotel. The eight-piece will perform at the NZ Music Awards (www.nzmusicawards.co.nz ) next Wednesday night (30/4) – their debut single ‘Giddyup’ is a finalist for top-selling Kiwi single of 2002 – before the band flies to New Caledonia to do non-profit performances to raise funds for cyclone victims. Their next single, 'Lose Your Power', will be released in time for NZ Music Month in May, and the debut album, ‘Revival’, on June 5. Katchafire’s website is www.katchafire.co.nz .
- Warriors fans are being encouraged to join Lapi and the choir at the Otara markets this Saturday morning (26/4). The choir will be giving away Warriors Puma t-shirts, caps, unconditional supporter tour t-shirts, game tickets and stickers.
- Mai FM 88.6 is supporting the grand opening of a new South Auckland nightclub, Baby J’s, on Thursday, May 1. Specialising in funk, soul and R’n’B, Baby J’s will serve up a slice of South Beach Miami in the heart of Papatoetoe, 183 Great South Road in Hunter’s Corner. The VIP opening is from 6pm to 8pm before the club opens to the public.
- As part of NZ Music Month, Mai FM 88.6 presents 'Who Brings the Flavour' - a showcase of New Zealand's finest female talent featuring Nat Rose, Trinity, Ladi 6, Nemesis, Deva, Verse III, Phaze and DJs Deno and Dena; 4.20 in Karangahape Road on Friday, May 2, from 10pm; tickets are $20, strictly limited and available from Real Groovy.
- Join world champion kickboxer Ray ‘Sugarfoot’ Sefo at the grand opening of the Planet Health Fitness Centre and the Ray Sefo Fight Academy at 12.30pm on Saturday, May 3. Check out the facilities which include a weights room, new boxing and kick boxing areas, sauna and crèche. The new fitness centre and fight academy is located at 118 Henderson Valley Road, Henderson.
