Dunedin Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey T1/2003
The first round of the Dunedin 2003 Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Surveys conducted by Research International was released today at noon.
Department of Statistics Census 2001 data indicates that there are approximately 94,500 people aged over 10 years in the Dunedin survey area used for the Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these 94,500 people, 84% of them listen to a commercial radio station at some time during the week.
The survey, conducted over 6 weeks and sampling 1,363 people aged 10 years and over has found that 91.8 The Edge continues to have the most listeners each week, with 24,000 different people tuning in each week. The Rock 93.4FM retains second placing with 18,500 different listeners each week, closely followed by Classic Hits 89.4FM which moves up to third place with 18,200 listeners. 98 More FM moves up to fourth place with 16,500 listeners and Radio Dunedin retains fifth place with 13,400 different listeners each week.
The commercial radio station with the highest market share in Dunedin continues to be Radio Dunedin with a 15.7% share of the market. The second placed station continues to be 91.8 The Edge with a 14.8% share of commercial radio listening in Dunedin, followed by The Rock 93.4FM which moves up to third place with a 9.8% share. Newstalk ZB moves up to fourth place with a 9.6% share and Classic Hits 89.4FM moves up to fifth in the market with a 9.4% share of commercial radio listening in Dunedin.
Breakfast results show Radio Dunedin continuing to hold the highest share with 15.2% of the commercial radio breakfast market. Newstalk ZB moves up to second place at breakfast with a 12.7% share. 91.8 The Edge holds onto third placing this round with a 12.4% share of the breakfast market. 98 More FM retains fourth place at breakfast with an 11.5% share of the commercial radio breakfast market, closely followed by Classic Hits 89.4FM with an 11.0% share.
The margin of error on these results is +/- 2.7%
