Hunting Tragedies
“The New Zealand Deerstalkers’ Association is saddened by the three hunting fatalities that have occurred in the first three weeks of the roar”, says Trevor Dyke, National President. “With several weeks of the roar to go; hunters should be taking extra care and ensuring that they positively identify their target.” Dyke went on to say. “Shooting at colour, sound, shape or movement is not positively identifying a target; a basic firearm safety rule.”
“Hunters should consider ‘improving their visibility’ by wearing some sort of blaze orange or hi-visibility clothing,” suggested Dyke.
“Inexperienced
hunters who wish to improve their skills and safety in the
bush should consider contacting a NZDA branch and ask about
our HUNTS courses, which place emphasis on safety and
enhancing skills when
hunting.”
