Soliton: Prepare to feel inspired!
Prepare to feel inspired! Take a sample of exceptional New Zealand talent, place it in the Regent at the St James
complex on Queen St and you have the uniquely eclectic and stimulating night of Soliton.
Soliton: a solitary wave that propagates with little loss of energy and retains its shape and speed after colliding with
another such wave.
In other words a Soliton is a moment of order in a chaotic environment.
Soliton is a seamless evening of performance, original contemporary music, video art, film, installation and
contemporary dance.
The Soliton events were initiated in 1997 by Mike Hodgson, (one half of the renowned Pitch Black duo). The proto-type
for this format began with the events ‘Rotate Your State’ also initiated by Mike in the late 80's at the Gluepot. In
Hamilton, parallell events were initiated by Greg Wood (Unit 23), such as ‘Synaesthesia’ and ‘The Bunker’, and then
later in Auckland the experimental series at Herzog, ‘Technicolour’, featuring many of Auckland's well-known
contemporary electronic musicians. Soliton is a contemporary variation of these events, and has become a very successful
exhibition format. GregWood is on board this year with Soliton and Mike will feature as Misled Convoy, a small diversion
from his work with Paddy Free as Pitch Black.
This non-stop curated one-off evening is made up of inter-disciplinary events that will be presented over 6 hours.
Starting promptly at 9 pm on Saturday 26th April.
