First Cd Winner For Coke Rhythm Nation
First Cd Winner For Coke Rhythm Nation
Christchurch band Que is poised for stardom after winning the first round of the year-long Coke Rhythm Nation competition.
Coke has joined forces with top Auckland music station Mai FM 88.6 to expand the talent search into a 12-month "super-comp".
Singer-songwriters send in a CD, tape or MP3 of their original work to the radio station, or Mai FM staff go out to record the talent on mini disc.
Listeners vote for their top song which is then produced and pressed onto CD, and available from Sounds music stores in exchange for a 600ml Coke label. The winning song is added to Mai FM's playlist.
Mai FM national sales manager Toni Urlich says a winner will be selected every month before the top 12 perform at an outdoor concert at Okahu Bay in Auckland in December.
More than 20 songs made the finals of round one with Que's original tune, 'Time To Get Ready', attracting the most votes from Mai FM listeners.
"This business is not easy to break into but the chance to be added to Mai FM's playlist plus your own CD and concert is an extraordinary start," Toni Urlich says.
"We think the talent is here in Aotearoa and we want it on our station."
