Good afternoon, all week we have been getting teased by cyclones and lows showing promise but not delivering to the full extent they could. If you are down Kaikoura way this weekend the Kaikoura Longboard Classic is on and it is looking like scoring some pretty good waves for the event. The Wellington Surfing Champs are on this weekend as well. I'm guessing, but I would imagine they will be held on the East Coast.

Weather Situation

Yes, we have all been studying the weather maps this week and I tell you they have been some of the best looking weather maps. We will get our just dessert this weekend gang.

Now, we have a Low to the southeast of Stewart Island that is producing a small south swell. We have cyclone Erica to the northwest and she is real slow moving and is still not in line with the top of New Zealand. Cyclone Eseta has weakened a little and moved further to the east. The big Low that has been sitting off East Cape has dropped down to just above the Chatham's. Now this low is already producing swell in the Gisborne region and it will spread south pouring into the East Coast beaches of the South Island and the Wairarapa.

Regional Report

North Island

Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:

West Coast: We have a southwest swell 3-4 feet with an onshore southwest wind. The forecast is for southwest to continue tomorrow and southeast by Sunday. By Sunday we should see a bit more swell as well. HT 0745.

East Coast: Well we have talked about the weather map and we are just waiting. But I will give you the good news, we are already starting to see a swell build gang. We are going to get two swells by the look of things. Northeast and Southeast. We have 1-1.5 feet of northeast swell lurking around at the moment. The wind is southwest offshore and will be that way tomorrow with southeast forecast for late Sunday. HT 1645.

Gisborne; Wairarapa:

Look out for an increase in swell tonight with swells coming at us from two angles. We have an east swell already of 3-4 feet and a developing south swell. More swell expected from the east to southeast and northeast swell. The southwest wind should ease tonight with northwest tomorrow and then back to the southwest. HT 1525.

Taranaki:

The swell is on the rise from the southwest and this arvo we have 3-4 feet down the coast and 1-3 feet in Town. The wind is a problem with onshores today easing tomorrow variable for a while and then northwest again. HT 0655.

Wellington:

West Coast; Northwest this arvo and then back to south tomorrow and then back to north on Sunday. Not much chance of any action besides a dribbly wind swell this weekend. Flat this arvo. HT 1805.

South Coast; We have a small south swell of about half a foot this arvo with a north to northwest offshore. Its back to southwest tomorrow and a rising east swell. Wellington Champs on this weekend. Palliser is about 1-1.5 feet this arvo. HT 1430.

South Island

West Coast:

The wind has swung this arvo to the northwest and we have had an increase in swell from the southwest. It's 3-4 feet now and looks like it is building. More swell for the weekend with southwest winds tomorrow and Sunday. HT 0755.

Kaikoura; Canterbury:

A northeaster this arvo and a southerly tonight. Rising swell on both sides on the peninsular with a south swell and east swell on the way. Its about 1-1.5 feet on the other side this arvo. We have a dribbly messy 1 foot on the town beaches. Kaikoura, the tide has filled in this arvo and the little south swell has been swallowed up. Its still there, the tides too high. The wind is a light northeasterly. Now we are expecting more swell tomorrow so look out. No wind in the morning and coastal north easterlies in the arvo. HT 1405.

Dunedin; Southland:

Sorry no report today. Our man on the spot has vanished and we can't make it up. You can expect a rising east swell and northeast winds tending southwest by the look of the forecast. We will also see a south swell develop over the weekend. HT 1215.

DK in the House...

We're introducing a new feature to the Surfco Homepage. It has sort of come about through Surfco's Auckland office (sounds great doesn't it...actually Keith's house!) becoming a place to lob for transient surfers, when in Auckland. So we thought we would catch up with these people for couple of minutes when we could.

The first suspect in the house is none other than that household name Daniel Kereopa. Now DK must have done a million interviews if he has done one. So we have taken a different approach with Daniel and have asked him a few real personal type questions...coming soon to the Homepage!
