Buskers' Brains, Murals and Mouths Go Fast
What: Fringe NZ Busking Olympics & The Big Busk Off Where: Wellington Streets When: Monday 24 February - Sunday 2 March Buskers’ Brains,
Murals and Mouths Go Fast Juggling, fast brains, acrobatics, fast murals, mad horses and fast mouths - just part of
every day life for the crazy wacky buskers at Fringe NZ.
>From 24 to 28 February Manners Mall, Cuba Mall, Civic Square and the National Library Courtyard will come alive at
lunchtime to the hilarity and physical contortions of the world’s best and funniest street performers. New this year are
evening performances at Courtenay Central at 6pm and 7pm all week.
The Fringe NZ Busking Olympics finish with the Big Busk Off at Queens Wharf from 2pm on 2 March.
“We have eight stunning international acts this year,” said Tim Renner, Fringe NZ Director. “The variety and talent is
huge and we think this will be the best Busking Olympics to date.”
Appearing at the Busking Olympics this year are:
§ Jon Hicks - a fast muralist who paints outsized artworks executed live with stylish and vigorous versatility
(UK).
§ Copperman - standing 2.5m high on his box this burnished giant is always looking to befriend someone with a kiss
on the cheek, or a mighty handshake (Australia).
§ The Hula Hoop King - who holds Guinness Book world records in four categories and describes his show as whirling
cosmic eye candy gyronautica (USA).
§ Duke Dreamer - is a modern gentleman, androgynous mystic, magician, tight-rope walker, and lover of all things
noble, pastel coloured and pink (USA).
§ Hot Nuts n Popcorn - a vaudevillian comedy duo combining many years of global improv experience and an
unquenchable thirst for Vegas style suits (Canada).
§ Lucy Lou - uniquely explores the art of comedy juggling and unicycling while she’s looking for her prince
charming (Germany).
§ The Cloghoppers - A duo with a cowboy wild west feel with mooing-lassoing, chicken impossible juggling and the
lone ranger on a 5 foot unicycle (UK).
§ Daisy and Derek - the only duo crazy enough to attempt hoola contortion while surfing, acrobalance, crazy
manipulations and high energy bull-whip action (Australia).
Prepare to witness supreme originality (and some stupidity) as these international street artists perform their antics
in the summer sun.
