Prada Legal Adviser’s Computer Stolen
AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
NOVEMBER 30, 2002
Alessandra Pandarese reported this morning the theft of her laptop computer from the premises of her supporting law firm
in Auckland. Ms Pandarese is the principal legal advisor to Prada Challenge 2003 and secretary-general of Challenger of
Record Management (CORM).
Ms Pandarese said today: "I arrived at the Norton White offices around 10.00 am this morning for a meeting. I went into
my office on the ground floor at the back of the building. The office has a window opening onto the back of the
premises, with a drop of about 5 feet from the window sill to the ground. The window was open when I went into the
office this morning, although I always close it every time I leave the office.
As soon as I opened the door to the office, I saw that the computer screen which usually sits on my desk had been
knocked to the floor. The screen was lying on the floor, with bits of broken plastic casing around it. The laptop fitted
in a docking station connected to the screen, keyboard and printer, was gone. The various cables were disconnected from
the docking station, with their loose ends scattered around the desk.
Apart from the laptop computer nothing else was taken from my office. A check was made throughout the premises, and
nothing else appears to have been taken from any other office. Laptop computers used by the lawyers who work in the
office, and various other valuable computer or electronic equipment were all untouched.
I usually take the laptop with me to use in the other locations at which I work. But yesterday, around noon I had
experienced software problems. I closed the computer down and I left it there so that a check could be performed.
Auckland Central Police visited the premises to collect evidence and carry out the routine enquiries."
