Country’s Best Hairdressers Reveal Summer Hair Trends For New Zealand: Fringes & Wavy Hair
The winners of this year’s Schwarzkopf Professional New Zealand Hairdresser and Salon of the Year both featured fringes and wavy hair in their winning works.
Cole Schierenbeck, of Stephen Marr Hair Skin & Body, was this week named Schwarzkopf Professional New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year and Servilles Newmarket was awarded the Salon of the Year. Both winners are based in Auckland.
General Manager of Schwarzkopf Professional, Craig Manson, says both collections are exceptional and reveal the summer hair trends for New Zealand.
“Fringes are definitely back in vogue - diagonally cut, geometric, long or short. Also the curl is making a comeback, with wavy hair hot this season,” says Manson.
Manson says women don’t have to toss in their hair straighteners yet, but curls are a great look for summer. “We have already seen this happen at this year’s Emmy Awards, Jennifer Anniston’s sported a wavy hairstyle.
“This season’s colours are warm blondes and strong chocolates with beige lowlights. Coppers are still in,” he says.
This year’s judging panel included international Schwarzkopf hair guru and ambassador -Simon Ellis, Australian Hairdresser of the Year - Oscar Cullinan, Editor of Fashion Quarterly - Leonie Dale and well-known fashion photographer, Tony Drayton.
The judges were looking for leading edge, fashion forward work that was creative and aspirational. They were interested in the editorial styles of the work and the commercial/street aspects of the images.
Simon Ellis says: “Internationally New Zealand is fast gaining a reputation for its fashion designers, however your hairdressers are demonstrating the same level of creativity and integrity. Truly, Kiwi hairdressers are amongst the best in the world.”
Over 600 images were submitted competing for the two categories: Schwarzkopf Professional New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year and Schwarzkopf Professional New Zealand Salon of the Year.
Overall 18 finalists were chosen in August comprising six finalists from each region -Northern (Auckland north), Central (Waikato to Wellington) and Southern (South Island). These six regional contested for the title of Schwarzkopf Professional New Zealand Hairdresser and Salon of the Year, respectively.
