Fang's second album to be released Nov 7

Fang's second album Somewhere Out There will be released on 7th November 2002 on Arch Hill Recordings ­ distributed in New Zealand by FMR, in Australia and the UK by Hot Records.

During the course of the last year Fang have been working on the album in the Arch Hill Studios, temporarily located in a band members flat basement. After several unsatisfactory attempts in the west-coast bush and in central city office blocks, Fang settled into the contemporary digital recording style ­ using studio technology as an additional composition tool.

Somewhere Out There is very different to the first Fang album (The Origin of Species), reflecting a more sparse, atmospheric, late night and cinematic sound. Instruments used extensively include the piano, organ, Fender Rhodes, melodica, clarinet, strings, percussion and the occasional analog bleep. Steve Reay, formerly of the Subliminals, contributed guitar to many tracks and now joins the band for live shows. A lot of effort was put into achieving a very high standard of recording and production on the album.

Radio singles ³Man From the South² and ³Telephone² have already had extensive b-net radio play, the latter spending some weeks in the b-net top 10 and spending six weeks in the Radioscope ALT top 10, after going in at Number 1 (it's back at number two this week). A video is in production for Man From the South, made by Richard Bell who has worked with U2, Nirvana, Johnny Cash and others.

Fang¹s first album ³The Origin of Species² yeilded four b-net hits including ³Disphoria², ³Employee of the Month² (No1 BFM top 10), ³Your Still Young² and ³Technology.² The album also received many favourable reviews and saw the band playing shows up and down New Zealand, as well as appearances on Space, Squeeze, and other radio/TV shows. All the members of Fang have significant musical backgrounds, including involvement in Superette, the Instigators, the Woodentops, Alphalphameo and the Subliminals.
