Temple's Open Mic Night Competition "a success"

Last Monday was our very first final of the CDS Open Mic Night Competition and what an awesome night it was!!!

And even better, the competition kicks off again this Monday, so be here, with your friends and you could well be up for a free live recording (all finalists) and a run of 50 CDs (30 for the runner up). The next final will be on Monday 23rd of December so put it in your diaries!!

The winner on the night was St Lucy with the runner up Mat Rankin. Because the quality of the night was so high, the judges couldn't let Two Spirit, Tom and Eight Fold go by without a Very Highly Commended.

The night was recorded live by the wonderful people at CDS Productions and our very first "Live at the Temple" CD will be released. More info about that as it comes to hand.

Says St Lucy of the night "All competitive-ness aside, I think we are blessed with a space that we can use to sing our songs. The Temple is a haven for songwriters who either don't have the support of the masses via major label intervention or crap New Zealand television shows, or come from parts of the country where audience and venue resources are scarce. I certainly don't see performing as a competition, if anything I am competing with my own ego and self esteem and barely manage to subdue them long enough to have the balls to stand on stage and practice my craft. Oh ok, here we go, St. Lucy is about the writing and performance of quality songs in an environment that is constantly under threat from American influenced crap. St. Lucy has shared stages with some of New Zealand's finest. I think perhaps the thing that makes me tick is "Hope", I guess that's the main theme in my work, the hope and dream of a brighter day. I reckon that's the driving force behind everyone, except maybe those who overshoot the dream and get greedy followed quickly by lazy. Image, posturing, fashion and branding mean fuck all if the message is wrong. xxx Lucy

This competition is fun, friendly and relaxed.

The rules are simple:
· All performance genres welcome eg music, comedians, poets, storytellers
· Each Monday's winner will be voted by the audience
· One vote ONLY per audience member or performer per night
· You can enter as many times as you like
· Bring your friends to cheer you on and vote for you
· You can vote for yourself

Season tickets are available for EVERY Monday until the end of the year for just $20 - save $40!!!!
