100,000 Texts Sent Yesterday As Part Of America’s Cup Build Up
New Zealanders wanting to get involved in America’s Cup action have gone text mad on their Telecom mobile phones.
More than 100,000 entries were received on the first day of Telecom’s $100,000+ Text Challenge. That figure has climbed
to 160,000 today.
New Zealanders are also texting words of encouragement to Team New Zealand with TXT2TEAM.
The $100,000+ Text Challenge lets New Zealanders show how much they know about the America’s Cup race by answering a
different race oriented question each day.
Up for grabs is $100,000+ in prizes, which includes a Toyota Rav4. More than 300 spot prizes were sent out on the first
day. These included binoculars, flash cameras and Team New Zealand gear, combo chilly bin - radios, magnums of Moet
Champagne, Regency Duty Free Store vouchers, double movie passes and free airtime from Telecom Mobile.
The $100,000 Text Challenge involves texting ‘Play’ to 2628, then correctly answering the daily questions on your
Telecom mobile phone. Each correct answer gets the chance to win a Toyota Rav4 and other great prizes.
The competition runs until 1 March 2003.
Messages so far on TXT2TEAM range from simple phrases of GO TEAM, Go like the wind TNZ, to U rule guys – with u all da
way, the cups in bag - bring to Tokoroa, Go Team NZ from all the girls in the Central Hawkes Bay Hockey team, Best luck
from the Evans Family, Waiheke, to offers of helping crew the boat.
Words of support appear on the official Team New Zealand site at www.teamnewzealand.com within 15 minutes of being sent.
