Carlson Joins The Champagne Set For Salon Showing
Fashion designer Tanya Carlson will be a special guest at an exclusive Pol Roger winemakers’ dinner next week – presenting a select salon showing of her Summer 2002/2003 range, titled “No More Twist”, as well as key pieces from her Second Summer range.
The Pol Roger winemakers dinner, to be held at Otto’s restaurant in Auckland’s Metropolis Hotel on Monday September 30, will be hosted by the French-based head of the Pol Roger champagne house – Christian Pol-Roger. M. Pol-Roger will guide guests through an exquisite range of Pol Roger champagnes, carefully matched with fine food from Otto’s. Pol Roger, established 1849, is one of the world’s greatest champagne houses and is the only one still family owned and run.
Carlson’s “No More Twist” collection features all the characteristics of Carlson design – superb detailing, excellent cut and unexpected elements of construction. It puts a modern spin on 18th tailoring, when silk thread was called “twist”. It also draws inspiration from Beatrix Potter’s story “The Tailor of Gloucester” and the fairytale idea that someone will come in and do all your work for you. In the “Tailor of Gloucester” little mice come in and finish the tailor’s work when he is sick in bed.
Carlson’s Second Summer collection features delicate patchwork tops and skirts made from a charming mix of silks, laces and fine fabrics. Handpainted silks and satins are also used, in garments that are ideal for parties, cruisewear or a day at the races.
Carlson is currently working on her Winter 2003 collection, to be unveiled at the second L’Oreal New Zealand Fashion Week, in October. The Carlson show is scheduled for 4pm Tuesday October 22, the first day of shows.
