Symphony Of Sails Celebrates America’s Cup
Three key players in the New Zealand music industry are getting behind the America’s Cup campaign on Friday night (Friday 13 September) with the launch of a new CD, Symphony of Sails at a gala concert in Auckland’s Aotea Centre.
The Auckland
Philharmonia, Concert FM and Universal Music have produced a
CD of classical music evoking the romance and adventure of
seafarers and sailing.
Included on the CD are such works
as Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, Kachaturian’s Adagio of
Spartacus and Phrygia (the Onedin Line theme) Offenbach’s
Barcarolle and Gareth Farr’s From the Depths Sound the Great
Sea Gongs.
This is a CD guaranteed to stir the emotions
and put New Zealanders in the right frame of mind to enter
the America’s Cup.
Friday night’s concert, based around
the CD repertoire, will be performed by the Auckland
Philharmonia with conductor Marc Taddei and guest artists
Tina Cross and Tim Beveridge.
Radio New Zealand's Music Manager, Miles Rogers, says The Auckland Philharmonia's invitation to join in the production of this CD was irresistible.
“ This is music that stirs the emotions, music that lasts.Being released immediately prior to the Louis Vuitton Cup races, it should add immeasurably both to New Zealanders' excitement throughout the whole America’s Cup challenge, and to the memories that will linger."
In it's national role, Concert FM broadcasts
Auckland Philharmonia concerts throughout the country.
Concert FM has previously had a successful partnership with
Universal Music in the release of two CDs with the New
Zealand Symphony Orchestra - Beauty Spot I and Beauty Spot
II.
