Amnesty International’s Spring Fundraising concert

Amnesty International is hosting a concert in Wellington to raise funds for the organisation’s work in highlighting human rights abuses around the world.

The event, now in its second year of association with the Phoenix Choir, is being held on Sunday 8 September at 2:30 pm at St Mary of the Angels Church in Boulcott Street.

Featured artists are the Phoenix Choir conducted by David Trott - soloists Janey McKenzie (soprano), Yvonne Gray (contralto), Peter Hurd (tenor), Craig Beardsworth (baritone), Sam Manzanza (African Drums) and 'Cadenza'.

The choir will sing Mozart's Mass in ‘B Flat’. (K257), Rachmaninoff's Hymn of the Cherubim and folk songs from around the world, including England, the Appalachian Mountains and Africa. Well-known African drummer, Sam Manzanza, who originally hails from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will be adding zest to the African section. Cadenza will present some 'close harmony'.

It will be David’s final performance as conductor of the Wellington-based Phoenix choir. He is retiring as their Musical Director after 10 years.

David, well known in Wellington as an organist as well as a choir director will play the magnificent organ at St Marys as part of the programme.
