When Love Comes Calling National Tour – Wgtn, Chch, Dun
Acclaimed Wellington choreographer, Raewyn Hill stages a sensational solo show that uniquely combines dance and documentary taking the audience on a journey of love. Themes of Regret, Denial, Trust, Temptation, Desire and Truth are all explored.
A documentary style interview with local Wellington character, Norman Levido, will be projected on the back wall, while Raewyn dances on an unconventional dance floor made of dirt, especially shipped up from Invercargill for the performance.
She has drawn on both her and Norman's personal experiences to expose the beauty, pain and loss of the universal theme of love. Inspired by the sheer emotional intensity of the subject matter, WHEN LOVE COMES CALLING will enthral and captivate audiences with an evening of dance that pushes the boundaries of physicality and emotion.
There is madness, sadness, rejection and elation symbolically represented in the spectacular choreography, atmospheric lighting and design in this production which may move you to tears, and will have you shouting for more.
Raewyn is supported by the crème of NZ's creative talent, with recent DOC residency recipient Jo Randerson acting as dramaturg and costumes designed Andrea Moore (the show providing an unusual catwalk during NZ fashion week). An original score comes from composer Nic McGowan, complimented by stunning lighting by Martyn Roberts.
A product of Raeywn's residency at the Arts Centre in 2001, this production wowed audiences and critics alike at its premiere in Christchurch. "This is a world class production, make no mistake. If you are a lover of dance and theatre it is not to be missed." Christchurch Press
RAEYWN HILL BIO Following Raewyn's sell-out success of WHITE earlier in the year, she has been named an AMP scholar for 2002.
Raeywn's has recently choreographed for the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Footnote Dance Company. Originally from Christchurch, she is considered to be one of New Zealand's finest contemporary dancers. Performing with New Zealand's foremost choreographers and dancers, including the Douglas Wright Dance Company and Michael Parmenter's Commotion Company. Raewyn has also toured Australia with Gary Stewart's company THWACK.
