After 21 Years Boxing Is Back In Downtown Wellington.

In the first half of last century, boxing was a regular and well followed sport in Wellington’s Town Hall. Often attracting capacity houses to see the best of New Zealand’s pugilists compete, yet for the last 21 years has been absent from the sports and entertainment scene of the city.

On August the 9th the Capital will host a full card of top amateur and professional boxers in an entertainment packed ten fight programme. Boxing is Back!

The evening will open the new provincial challenge between Wellington and Canterbury. Under the banner of ‘THE CLASH’ seven of the South’s best male and female amateur boxers, in a range of weight divisions will battle it our centre ring.

The three schedule professional bouts will include a Middleweight Professional Fight between Colin Hunia (Rotorua) vs Kololo Faitua (Wellington).

The first major highlight is a sanctioned New Zealand Title Fight:
Boxing New Zealand’s Female Welterweight Championship Title
Sue Glassey (Palmerston North) vs Wena Karaka (Auckland)

The Main Event and climax of the programme: The fully sanctioned vacant title fight with one of the best match-ups this year!

Boxing New Zealand’s Light Heavyweight Professional Championship Title:
Sean Sullivan (Auckland) vs Sam Leuii (Auckland)

The programme is presented by the Wellington and Hutt Valley Boxing Association and event company Capital C. with the sport benefiting regionally.

Entitled appropriately as Lords and Ladies of the Ring, it is more than a boxing event, it is a complete four hour entertainment ‘experience’ and is planned to be the first of a regular cycle of similar productions in the Capital. A full table menu and bar service, giant ‘close-up’ video screen, show girls and the sounds of the twelve piece Don Boyd Swing Band are just part of the event. Booking is via Ticketek.
