Clainn Albainn Strikes Again
Today is the 256th anniversary of the Battle of Culloden
on the 16th April 1746. To mark the occasion a small
tactical force of Clann Albain will redress the abomination
added to the head of the Robbie Burns statue in the
Octagon.
Clann Albain was the group who renamed Cumberland St in 1996 to raise the issue of Scotland's lack of self-determination by highlighting the impropriety of having Butcher Cumberland's name memorialised in a Scottish city.
While today's action will do little to highlight Scotland's continuing plight of English rule, it has been inspired by various public requests that such action be taken.
While the Clann appreciate the desirability to keep bird shite off the statue's head many other famous statues around the world live happily with such head adornments - The Clann appeal to the City Council to remove the fixture and the Clann offers personally wash the Bard's head every week if necessary.
Alternations to the statue will occur at 6.30 this evening.
