"5 minute call" Technology from the Fringe

Fringe NZ 2002 - an interactive video mockumentary event We all know that there are often more dramas behind the scenes leading up to a theatrical event than appear on stage once the house lights go down.

5 minute call is a humorous look at the dynamics before the opening night of a fictional show. 5 minute call is an episodic video series delivered in weekly instalments, delivered on kiosks in the Wellington CBD and online at http://www.5minutecall.co.nz Each week punters can interact with the latest episode and decide the story line and fate of the characters through a questionnaire. This information is then collated and used to write the following weeks episode.

Each new episode will be launched on a Thursday. Punters returning for another weekend of entertainment can view the new episode and see how the story unravels. The premise will provide light entertainment to all and promises to slice close to the theatre world's funny bone. Shot documentary style, hyper-real characters with theatrical tendencies fight for the "confession cam" to tell their side of the story. The first episode will introduce the creative team as they hold auditions for the cast.

The audience will choose which actors make the grade and join the production. 5 minute call is a NZ first. Its use of audience interactivity through multiple media platforms is innovative and experimental. 5 minute call is a recipient of Kakano funding supported by Creative New Zealand. 5 minute call will be written by well-known Wellington playwrights Jo Randerson and Gabe McDonnell. It will feature a star-studded cast of local actors with film or television credits. The technical support will come from one of Wellington's most innovative multi-media companies, chrometoaster.
