Mayor Goes To Jail

Published: Mon 11 Feb 2002 01:24 PM
John Banks will visit Mt Eden prison on Wednesday 13 February 2002 to talk to a selected group about the jail and his early life. He sees this as a positive and motivational experience for the inmates.
Penguin Books will present the prison with 50 copies of the new edition of his biography John Banks, A Biography written by Paul Goldsmith.
He will be available outside the main entrance to the prison at 2pm for media questions.
Banks is motivated by the overwhelming response he received from inmates after the books initial publication in 1997. At the time he presented all prison libraries with copies of his book and regularly receives letters from prisoners.
The biography discusses his early life, his ministerial roles and includes his time as a breakfast host at Radio Pacific, his business ventures and campaign to win the Auckland mayoralty.
John Banks and biographer Paul Goldsmith will enter the prison at 1pm. He will then speak to the selected group of inmates before leaving the prison at 2pm. At this time he will be available for media questions regarding the talk and the book outside the main entrance to Mt Eden jail.
