Tühoe Moumou
tangata ki te pö - We give you our lives
Discover the
early stories of the Tühoe iwi (tribe) and their whakapapa
(genealogy), learn about Te Urewera, the sacred forest, find
out about key figures and events in Tühoe’s proud history,
and gain an insight into Tühoe today. Until November 2003.

Sightlines: looking into the art
collection
Sightlines presents eight dramatic views of Te
Papa's art collection. Organised around the strong
sightlines of the new gallery, each section is focused by
major iconic pieces, including works by Colin McCahon,
Robert Mapplethorpe, Yuk King Tan, and Philip
Clairmont.

Masquerade: the art of courtship
Exploring
romance and courtship, Masquerade is a celebration of the
ways in which humans and animals turn on the charm. Until

the Wall: ceramics and sculpture at Te Papa
Showcasing
visually inspiring works from Te Papa's unique collection of
ceramics and sculpture. The Terrace, Level 6. Free

Made in New Zealand: stories of art and identity
Ko au te whenua, te whenua ko au
A popular,
entertaining, general history that traces the stories of New
Zealand’s distinct visual and material culture. Level 4.
Free entry.
Body Odyssey: journey though the human
body
An amazing, interactive exhibition about the wonders
of the human body. Whether you’re running through a blood
tunnel or climbing the giant tongue, you’ll be fascinated by
the world inside us. Until 1 February 2002. Adults $6.50,
children $4.00. Family concessions available.

Partners in Time: Art and the
Treaty
This exhibition is an artistic exploration of the
continuing dialogue between Mäori and Päkehä. Partners in
Time presents works from Te Papa's collection, including
works by Max Hailstone and a selection from the Muka
portfolio. The Illot Centre, Level 4. Free
entry.
Nieuw-Zeeland – Going Dutch
This exhibition
focuses on the Dutch Community in New Zealand, and tells the
moving stories of some of the approximately 100,000 New
Zealanders of Dutch descent. Nieuw-Zeeland-Going Dutch shows
a vibrant community that has greatly enriched our culture.

Quake Braker
Venture underground to see some of
the 152 base isolators Te Papa sits on, and learn how these
New Zealand inventions make Te Papa a safer place, should an
earthquake strike.

Planning a visit?
Opening
hours
Te Papa is open every day of the year, 10am to 6pm,
and on Thursdays until 9pm. Entry is free though charges
apply to some short-term exhibitions and to the Time
Warp.
Tours
The Introducing Te Papa Tour gives you an
overview of the museum in 45 minutes. It runs every day at
10.15am and 2.00pm. Book on the day from 9.30am on Level 1.
Numbers limited! Adults $9, children $5.
Back of House Tour. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 11.30am (except 20 December to 3 January inclusive). Tours last 45 minutes. Book on the day at the Information Desk, Level 2. $10. Numbers are limited and restricted to those aged 12 years and over.
The Information Desk on Level 2 is loaded up with useful information about events, exhibitions, and services.
Guides (available from the information

The Audio Guide shows you around Te Papa with music
and an informative commentary. Available in English, German,
Japanese, and Mäori. $5.
The Te Papa Explorer is a handy eight-page booklet complete with maps of each level and suggested themed tours. $2.

A magical place for those aged
five-and-under to explore through play, make-believe,
