Vodafone Warriors announce 2002 playing roster

Auckland, New Zealand, November 16, 2001 – Vodafone Warriors head coach Daniel Anderson today announced his 2002 playing roster.
Twenty-four athletes have been named, allowing Anderson room to add one more name to complete his squad.
Power, brains and speed have been added to the already potent backline of the Vodafone Warriors through the signing of 26-year old John Carlaw, Queensland rookie Brett Webb and Parramatta utility PJ Marsh.
Carlaw has played 101 first grade games through stints at the Knights, Hunter Mariners, Balmain and Wests Tigers. He was the Tigers top try scorer for the 2001 season with a tally of 9 (a career total of 35) and recorded third best in metres gained (1872).
Carlaw is two subjects away from completing his Bachelor of Business degree and expects to acheive the milestone prior to season 2002 commencing.
‘John is exactly what we were looking for – a big, fast man. For a relatively young man he also has a lot of experience so I expect our guys to learn from him. He has an excellent attitude to training and is a consummate professional. I think you will find that he will quickly find his feet and thrive in our settled environment’, said Anderson.
Webb finished top try scorer and runner-up ‘player of the year’ in the 2001 Queensland domestic competition. The 21-year old NRL rookie has already recorded amongst the fastest times at the Vodafone Warriors pre-season training and is also pushing the big boys of the team through his bench-pressing prowess.
Marsh will join the Vodafone Warriors for pre-season training next week, receiving extra time-off due to his 2001 finals appearances.
‘With Brett Webb we get top-line pace whilst PJ Marsh will train the house down – he was the fittest junior I had at Parramatta. PJ’s attitude to training alone will put immediate pressure on our players to lift their performance’, said Anderson.
The Vodafone Warriors 2002 playing roster is:
Betham Monty Meli Francis
Campion Kevin Morgan Justin
Carlaw John Murphy Justin
Cleary Ivan Myles David
Fa'afili Henry Palea'aesina Iafeta
Guttenbeil Awen Seuseu Jerry
