NEW ZEALAND WINS INTERNATIONAL EVENT
The New Zealand senior clay target team has won the 2001 Mackintosh postal
clay target event. The Mackintosh International Teams event is an annual
postal match between Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Canada,
New Zealand, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The event started in 1939 and
this is the 7th time the New Zealand senior team has won, the last time
being in 1982.
Selection of the Mackintosh event senior team is from accumulated scores
shot at the NZ National Championships that were held at Hamilton recently.
The 25 member senior team all shot 100 targets on a points basis. Once
the top 20 scores were added the total was 5905 points out of the possible
highest score 6000. Second was Australia with 5893 points and Canada was
third with 5881 points.
The Ladies team was second being 10 points behind Australia. Both the
Veterans and Juniors teams were third.
This result will auger well for the World Down the Line Championships that
are being held in Canterbury in March next year.
