Submissions Open For Jazz Commission
The Wellington International Jazz Festival is pleased to announce that submissions are open for the creation of a specifically commissioned work to celebrate the launch of the 5th annual Wellington International Jazz Festival programme.
The Wellington International Jazz Festival will commission a DJ/electronic musician and a Jazz musician to collaborate together to create a new work for this event. The Jazz Festival is looking for a new and unique way of creating music that celebrates both dance music and jazz.
This year’s commissioned musicians will be among prestigious company as past Jazz Festival commissions have included work by Mike Nock (1998), Steve Lacy (1999) and Steve Cournane (2000)
The commissioned work will be performed in Civic Square in a free outdoor concert at 7pm, 27 September 2001.
Submission
requirements:
Presentation duration is one hour
The
commissioned piece must be a minimum of 15
minutes
Artists commissioned must play in concert
The
commissioned piece should be written for two electronic/DJ
musicians and five jazz musicians (including
composers)
DJ and musician must write music
together
Brief musical history and recorded examples of
music
Brief statement about vision for the
piece
Deadline for submissions: 10 August
Those attending the concert will also be the first to receive their copy of this year’s Festival programme.
