Contestants in Risk, the country’s newest lottery game show, will be over $50,000 better off if they win for five
consecutive weeks.
The show, which goes to air for the first time on Wednesday 25 July, will initially offer a top cash prize of $50,000 to
contestants who win the show each week for five weeks – making it New Zealand’s richest ever game show. The $50,000
prize will be on top of the amounts the successful contestants win during the five weeks.
Risk is a game of two parts - a game show and a lottery – with opportunities for both the contestants and viewers at
home to win prizes. The game show features three teams of two contestants who must answer a series of questions and risk
the money they have already won to answer more questions.
“Risk will test each pair’s relationship by revealing how well they know each other’s knowledge of a topic – both
general knowledge and a range of specialist topics. The night’s winning pair can take the money and run or risk their
winnings to return the following week,” New Zealand Lotteries Commission senior brand manager Belinda Tito says.
“While we may decide later to offer prizes such as cars and trips to contestants who’ve won for a number of weeks,
we’ve decided to launch Risk in a big way and offer a top prize of $50,000 cash for our contestants. This means Risk is
New Zealand’s richest ever game show.”
There’s even more at stake for viewers who choose to play Risk at home. They could win as much as $100,000 by marking
off all 12 numbers in Game “R” on tickets purchased from their Lotto outlet.
“There are five chances for home viewers to win on every ticket,” Mrs Tito says. “Players can mark off numbers in each
of the four games “R”, “I”, “S” or “K” and they can also win if the team colour marked on their ticket is the same
colour as the winning team on the TV show. If for instance, the red team wins the game and people have “Red” on their
tickets, they’ll go into a draw to win $10,000.”
