Rodeos, McTwists, Barrel Rolls, Goofy Footed, and Alley Oops are just some of the smooth moves expected from top ski
jumpers and snowboarders in the LifeStyles Sport Big Air competition in Queenstown next week.
The Lifestyle Sports Big Air is undoubtedly one of the highlight events of the Air New Zealand Queenstown Winter
Festival. It’s a fast paced, thrill seeking, risk taking challenge set to music and held under lights on Coronet Peak on
Wednesday night.
Sixty keen competitors are expected to enter the Lifestyles Sport Big Air, which will be staged on a three-metre high
jump near the base lodge building.
This year’s top class competitors look likely to take the event to new heights and even bigger Big Air as they vie for
top honours and some fabulous major prizes. Ansell and their popular condom range LifeStyles Sport are putting up $1000
cash and automatic entry into an Australian event with accommodation included for the first male and female snowboarders
and free skiers. The runners up in the snowboard category will receive a funky thermographic LifeStyles Sport snowboard
(valued at $1500). Second place getters in the Free Skier category will receive skis and bindings of similar value.
A crowd of up to 5000 people are expected to gather on Coronet Peak on Wednesday 18th July to watch the airborne antics
and snow tricks of close rivals and Olympic hopefuls Aaron Jamieson and Deni Bevin. Other riders to watch out for are
Dylan Butt, Rachel Newton and Sam Deavoll.
A panel of judges will be looking for the best flips, spins and twists and points will be awarded for good landings.

The event is free to spectators and promises to be a visual spectacular. Preliminary rounds with practice rounds and two
judged runs of the LifeStyles Sport Big Air will happen from 1.30pm. The final will start at 5.30pm as darkness
descends.
Coaches to Coronet Peak depart at 3.30pm and 4.30pm from The Station building and will return downtown at 8.30pm at a
cost of $25 per person return.
