Missed out on the sold-out NZSO Beethoven concerts? - Catch the New Zealand Chamber Orchestra's celebration of the brilliance of Beethoven in one Wellington concert on 19 June at the Opera House.
This concert, with guest soloist and director, Jean Louis Steuerman, will showcase Beethoven's lyrical Piano Concerto No 1 and the sumptuous Triple Concerto, also featuring the NZCO's Music Director Donald Armstrong and Principal Cello Allan Chisholm.
Also being performed is New Zealander composer Anthony Watson's outstanding work Prelude and Allegro for String Orchestra.
Brazilian pianist Jean Louis Steuerman quickly gained recognition as a soloist and recitalist after winning the 1972 JS Bach Competition and has since appeared with many leading orchestras. He has a wide repertoire that encompasses recital and chamber music works as well as an extensive award-winning discography.
Donald Armstrong has been Music Director of the New Zealand Chamber Orchestra since it started in 1987 and his incisive leadership has been a major force in creating the dynamic and exciting style of the NZCO.
NZSO Associate Principal Cello, Allan Chisholm has performed music all his life, studying at Canterbury University before moving to London where in 1970 he won the RAM's Recital Medal. He is a founder member and Principal Cello of the NZCO and performed with the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic and BBC Symphony Orchestra before coming back to join the NZSO.
