Vodafone Warriors
and Northern Eagles Prepare to Clash
Auckland, New
Zealand, May 29, 2001 – After a decisive win against the
Canberra Raiders, the Vodafone Warriors are hoping to
deliver another winning performance against the Northern
Eagles this Friday at Ericsson Stadium.
February’s round
two game against the Eagles saw the Vodafone Warriors post
their first points of the season on the NRL scoreboard, and
the side is determined to repeat the effort in front of a
home crowd.
“The team played a good game against
Canberra. After our last few games, I was relieved the guys
played well. They gelled well as a unit,” says Coach Daniel
Anderson.
“The players worked hard and deserve the
confidence boost the win has given them.
“Everyone is
looking forward to the Eagles game – because we are at home
we get to have a bit of a breather and avoid the travel
issues. After the past few weeks, it’s a welcome
respite.
“I’m picking Friday will be a close game – the
Eagles haven’t had a bad season and they’ll be tough
opponents. We beat them last time, but I don’t think anyone
is taking it for granted that we’ll win again,” says
Anderson.
The home side will be without one of last
Saturday’s star defenders, Logan Swann. Swann pleaded guilty
for both careless high tackle charges brought against him
and will miss three games. Ali Lau’itiiti has pleaded not
guilty to a careless high tackle charge and will appear
before the judiciary tomorrow night. However, the Eagles
game will see the return of co-captain Kevin Campion.
