in the drivers seat this Friday, in what is essentially the
first of three Saturday nights in a row (yay for easter).
Join the father of Matterhorn funk and his esteemed guests
as they pile on the marmite for a night of tasty black
beats.
A little something about Tubbs: Due to enquiries from domestic distributors worldwide, Carbon Recordings (London) are repressing his Lo-Slung Funk EP (for the third time), which should be back on the shelves around town within the next few weeks. There's also a new Tubbs track showing up on the next Loop magazine CD and Front Room Recordings from Ladbroke Grove are putting out the Tomorrows People 12", by Atlantic Conveyor (Tubbs' dancefloor alias), which comes with a Danny Macmillan (Uptown Connection) remix on the flip, appearing on the shelves at the end of May.

Wednesday 18th - Jonathan Crayford Jonathan Crayford and his scratch band play live jazz jams the middle Wednesdays of the month. Join the Matterhorn crew for a lively evening of jazz noodles. Crayford is the bomb session musician who has played amongst legends James Brown and Tito Puente.
Thursday 19th Expansions with b.lo and EXTRA Special Mystery guest from Chicago... B.lo plays intelligent dance music without the wankiness that infers. From techno soul to 2 step B.lo¹s Thursday is the real start of the weekend at The Matterhorn. This Bass Frontiers and Stereo Nasties resident plays a complex blend of soul and technology that goes beyond the surface of music for dancing. Head music is his speciality, you MUST check him out. Wednesday 25th - MPC Battle 01 The concept: Each artist or combo makes a track with their MPC Sampler and brings it to The MPC Battle for a beat show down of the Wellington sound in The Matterhorn gardens.
The challenge: DJ MU has been stirring it up by leaving his evil beats as threatening messages on the answer phones of other challengers... "I made this in five minutes, be very afraid".
The MPC Battle 01 starts at 10pm at The Matterhorn and is a free event. Each outfit has to complete their track in under 10 minutes and all tracks must exceed 5 minutes.
The Artists: Mu - The Battle initiator, the man with the fat beats, an old school sampler junkie who's not afraid to play dirty.
Iain Gordon - of Dental Records, Ebb and Bongmaster, a keyboard wizard with his mind on the prize.
Paul and Sean - Wellington's Bass Frontiers Crew represent with their MPC, these rookies will be watched closely by the sampler mafia of Wellington.
Ricki - The DJ from Trinity Roots and player with many Wellington outfits, Ricki has the style to carry off funk, roots and drum and bass, which will he go for?
Warren - Trinity Roots front man and player with many Wellington bands including fat Freddys, does Warren have what it takes to battle his own band mates Mu, Ricki and Iain?
Maka McGreggor - Its the quite ones you have to watch for, Maka is a member of Southside of Bombay and many other musical groupings, what will he drop?
50HZ - The Wellington drum and bass producer has the skills, he is malleable and has varied styles from RnB, house and hip hop, will he do what we expect him to?
Vee - Matterhorn DJ resident and monkey about town, Vee's work with Jazz/hip hop fusion outfit Optimus Prime has Vee's skills primed, will he hip hop or will he surprise the crowd with a new style altogether?
Dallas - The man with the voice closes his mouth for the MPC Battle, this guy has been quietly working on his beats and has got the rest of the challengers worried, watch this man!
Toby Laing - This trumpeter works as a part of 18 bands, this is his first public appearance behind the MPC, this man has the mad soul collection, so expect a few soul surprises amongst his beats.
Cuffy and Leon D - This deep house pair have something jackin' up their sleeves for the battle, but they give no clues as to what their style may be.

Wednesday 2nd of May - Twinset Those funky little monkeys Twinset are back for another Wednesday session of lounge and jazz masterpieces. You won't see a better looking jazz band in Wellington and naturally they fit right in down at The Matterhorn in their groovy zoot suits. Twinset play a swinging selection of jazz and lounge classics teamed with a fair swag of their original tunes. It's toe tapping.
