Special Screening Of Eric Valli's Film "Himalaya"

In 1995, a six year old Tibetan child and members of his family disappeared. They have been held under house arrest in China ever since.

On 25 April this year, the child will have his 12th birthday. There are over 4000 Tibetan political prisoners but this child is special. He is the Panchen Lama.

By established custom in Tibet, the Panchen Lama and the Dalai Lama have a reciprocal relationship in which each recognises the incarnation of the other in their successive lives.

Friends of Tibet Wellington are celebrating the Panchen Lama's 12th birthday by holding a special fund raising evening to aid Tibetan political prisoners and refugees at the Penthouse Cinema, Brooklyn, on Wednesday, 25 April. At 8.30 pm, Eric Valli's film "Himalaya" will be screened. It is an astonishingly beautiful film set in the remote Nepalese mountain province of Dolpo. Described as a "hymn to the survival of an ancient culture and a classic tale of rivalry", the film's actors are local chiefs, lamas and villagers.

Waged $15 / Unwaged $10 for film and birthday cake. The Penthouse Cinema is fully licensed. Ticket inquiries please phone 025 237 8009 or 021 918 6449.

Please forward this message to others. If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation, please send your cheque made out to "Friends of Tibet", c/- The Treasurer, 72 Majoribanks Street, Mt Victoria, Wellington.
