Announced Today!
In her first official duty, our new Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright, announced the 2001 New Zealand Post Children’s Book Award winners at a ceremony at Government House in Wellington today.
The winners are:

Around 38 thousand New Zealand children voted for
their favourite book this year. Oliver in the Garden is the
2001 Children’s Choice award winner.

Panel
Each of the four category winners receives $5,000. In addition, $5,000 is awarded to the winner of The Book Of the Year. This is awarded to any one of the four category winners in recognition of outstanding overall excellence.
The New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards promote excellence in children’s literature and provide recognition for the very best children’s books published annually by New Zealand writers and illustrators.
The New Zealand Post Children’s Book Festival and Awards, are sponsored by New Zealand Post, administered by Booksellers New Zealand and supported by Creative New Zealand.
