Vodafone Warriors On Home Turf
Auckland, New Zealand, March 6, 2001 – Vodafone Warriors Coach Daniel Anderson today named the team to take the field against the St George/Illawara Dragons this Friday night at Ericsson Stadium.
Just the second home game for the new look Vodafone Warriors, Anderson and his team consider the match-up to be one of the season’s real challenges.
“We’ve always known the St George/Illawara game would be a big one for us. The club’s reputation and record are impressive. And it’s not going to be any easier without Shontayne and Wairangi, both those guys have got real talent and their absence is a loss,” says Anderson.
“But it’s not as if we don’t have alternatives, we’ve got depth in this team. I know the guys are looking forward to another home game – I don’t think people realise what a difference it makes to play on your own turf. We are all hoping for a big turnout on Friday night.”
“Sunday was a tough game for us. It was very physical and we were made to work incredibly hard right up until that final whistle. We were disappointed in the score in the end, although there were a number of aspects of the game I’m pleased with. We’ll go back to the tapes, analyse our mistakes and go forward.”
The Vodafone Warriors play St George/Illawara Dragons at Ericsson Stadium, Friday March 9, 7.30pm. The curtain raiser, round one of the Bartercard Cup, features the Northcote Tigers vs. the Glenora Bears – kick off 5.30pm.
