Mt Ruapehu Applauds NZski.Com Season Pass Offer

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd (RAL), operators of Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas, today applauded NZSki.com’s announcement of a discounted Season Pass.

RAL General Manager, Dave Mazey said today, “This is a good move for the ski industry in New Zealand. Anything that makes skiing and boarding more affordable for kiwis and attempts to grow the domestic market is great news.”

RAL last year rocked the New Zealand Ski Industry with a $199 Season Pass for Whakapapa. Neighbouring Turoa Ski Resort matched the offer and by the end of April 2000, 28,000 Season Passes had been sold.

This year North Island skiers and boarders can look forward to an even better deal. With the merger of Whakapapa and Turoa under RAL, the new combined Mt Ruapehu Season Pass will go on sale on April 1 and retail for $249 for Adults, $189 for students and $129 for Youths (16 and under on 1 June, 2001).

“Last year’s Season Pass was a huge success, however, we believe the combined Whakapapa and Turoa pass is even better value,” Dave Mazey said.

Last season both Whakapapa and Turoa saw good increases in patronage. However, the economic flow-on saw a very good year for ski and snowboard retailers, accommodation providers and businesses in the Ruapehu region.

Mt Ruapehu has also teamed up with five South Island ski areas to offer even greater benefits to its Season Pass customers. Cardrona, Treble Cone, Mt Dobson, Porter Heights and Rainbow ski areas offer a discount of up to $20 off an Adult Day Pass to Mt Ruapehu Season Pass holders.

“Many North Islanders travel South for a few days skiing or boarding. We believe a Mt Ruapehu Season Pass offers the best of both worlds with both the North and South Island covered,” says Dave Mazey.

The Mt Ruapehu Season Pass can be purchased from 1 April online at www.mtruapehu.com or by phoning 0508 Ruapehu (782 734).

Ends.
