A Christian Celebration Like No Other

NZ On Air is funding coverage of a unique event where people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds will come together for a single purpose – to celebrate the birth of Christ, 2000 years ago.

“Celebrate Jesus 2000 is an event in Wellington where all Christian denominations will come together to worship as one,” said NZ On Air Chief Executive, Jo Tyndall.

“The programme is an opportunity for us to showcase the multicultural nature of Christian faith in New Zealand. The event is as diverse as the regions, cultures and faiths involved,” said Ms Tyndall.

A highlight of the event will be a recorded video message from Archbishop Desmond Tutu. A diverse musical programme will include performances by Sir Howard Morrison and Dalvanius Prime and the Patea Maori Club. Opera singers Joanna Heslop, Ben Makisi and Rodney McCann will also feature, as will a massed Samoan choir.

NZ On Air has allocated $127,278 to C4 Productions to produce the two hour religious special. Celebrate Jesus 2000 will be broadcast on TV One later this year.
