Three Poets - Three Voices - Three Visions - a unique event.
Three diverse poets will read their work at BATS Theatre on SUNDAY 1st OCTOBER from 4pm to 6pm.
LEWIS SCOTT is an African American jazz poet who has worked with a range of poets and musicians such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Gwendolyn Brooks, Amiri Baraka and Nikki Giovanni. He has had 15 books of prose and poetry published and his work has appeared in magazines and newspapers throughout New Zealand, Australia and the USA. Scott will be reading poems from his new book 'Earth Colours'.
BASIM FURAT is a well-known and widely published poet forced into exile from Iraq because of his views and political writing. He is the New Zealand editor for 'Joussour', a literary magazine published in both English and Arabic. Basim is also a contributing writer to a number of Iraqi newspapers and magazines with world-wide distribution.
APIRANA TAYLOR is a Maori poet/writer/actor who, since the publication of his first book 'Eyes of the Ruru' in 1980, has proved to be a prolific writer not just of poetry but also short stories and plays. In addition, he is carving out a reputation as an actor. One of Taylor's best known poems is 'Sad Joke On A Marae', an earthquake of a poem in its depiction of cultural loss. This is Taylor's last performance before heading off to Europe on an extensive reading tour.
