"Local Government Costs - A Barrier To Growth"

19 November 1999

"LOCAL GOVERNMENT COSTS - A BARRIER TO GROWTH"

The New Zealand Manufacturers Federation today launches the seventh and last statement in a series of integrated policy statements which, together, address issues of significance in the forthcoming elections. Called "Local Government Costs - A Barrier to Growth" today's statement looks at how Local Government is big business in New Zealand and how its increased spending reduces New Zealand's competitiveness, investment and job growth.
Copies of "Local Government Costs - A Barrier to Growth" are in the mail to members of the Federation, Parliamentarians, the media and other opinion leaders.
The Federation intends to now amalgamate the seven policy statements into one document that will be presented to the in-coming Government as the Federation's policy on issues of importance to the New Zealand manufacturing sector. The document will then be used to assess the progress of the new Government in the areas the Federation sees as critical if New Zealand's global competitiveness is to be rebuilt.

Simon Carlaw, Chief Executive of the Manufacturers Federation is available for comment on each of the policy statements. He can be contacted on: 04 473-3000 (bus) or 04 476-7729 (pvt).

Copies of the seven statements are available on ManFed's web. www.manufacturers.org.nz.
