Industry Leaders Must Do Better: DFNZ
Dairy industry leaders are failing to communicate adequately with dairy farmers said Dairy Farmers of New Zealand Chairman Charlie Pedersen today.
Following two weeks of regional meetings in the North and South Islands, Mr Pedersen said that the DFNZ Executive received three clear messages from dairy farmers.
"Firstly, farmers have bought into the Mega Co concept and are supporting it. They now want their industry leaders to make the Mega Co materialise," commented Mr Pedersen.
"Secondly, dairy farmers are also proving to be far more conservative than expected and do not want tradable shares. There was a very strong and clear message that they do not want to lose control of their industry."
"Finally, farmers are also crying out to be provided substantial detail about what they can expect under the Mega Co. The Establishment Board must immediately provide details of the payment projections so that farmers can make proper commercial decisions about their businesses."
"The timetable for the establishment of Mega Co is running out. If it is to go ahead, and that appears to be farmers' preferred option, then farmers need some idea of what the Mega Co returns will be so that they can make their decision on an informed commercial basis."
