New Zealand Post Limited has signed an agreement to take a 30 per cent shareholding in Wellington based software development company Silent One Limited.
New Zealand Post Business Development Leader Paul Robinson said the shareholding extends New Zealand Post’s strength in electronic messaging and e-commerce capabilities.
“Silent One Limited’s electronic ‘knowledge library’ software product complements New Zealand Post’s strength in the physical distribution of information.”
The funds invested by New Zealand Post will enable Silent One Limited to expand its business and market its ‘knowledge library’ software internationally. The Internet based software, also called SilentOne, has attracted strong interest since it was released earlier this year. It has already been successfully implemented by a number of large New Zealand organisations, such as Massey University, and the New Zealand Trade Development Board who have implemented the product worldwide.
SilentOne incorporates document management capability and extends the concept to allow management of any file type in any location using an Internet based architecture.
Silent One Limited was founded by a group of Wellington business people who have had success establishing other companies in both information technology and telecommunications fields.
Managing Director of Silent One Limited, Ian Hight, said New Zealand Post’s involvement in the venture would be very valuable to future growth.
"Having New Zealand Post as part of our team is an important step in furthering the international success of the company. The relationship provides us not only with funding, but also with an established corporate partner with international contacts.”
This is the second stake that New Zealand Post has taken in technology companies this year. In March the company took a 50 per cent investment in The Electronic Commerce Network Limited (ECN).
“We are getting real benefits from our relationship with ECN. New Zealand Post has every expectation that our association with the skilled and enterprising people from Silent One Limited will be just as fruitful,” Mr Robinson said.
